Business Needs Assessment

JS&A leveraged emerging data sources to assess, quantify, and describe the latest trends and impacts of COVID-19 on businesses in Fort Lauderdale’s commercial districts, downtown, and the city overall. This study conducts a deeper-dive assessment of the following industries: restaurants; merchandise retail; hospitality; professional services; and arts, entertainment, and recreation.

We incorporated best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion and assess the unique impacts the pandemic has had on businesses owned by people of color, women, and LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as entrepreneurs and startups.

Based the study’s findings, JS&A identified opportunities, and provided recommendations, for City agencies and other partners to provide support in 2022 and beyond for businesses and commercial property owners. JS&A provided an easy to understand, visual, and stakeholder-friendly deliverable that helps educate the City’s constituency and partners, demonstrates the need for continued support, and exhibits knowledge and commitment to assisting the business and real estate communities moving forward.
